Hey folks, how many of you skip your breakfast if your weight shows more or if you had some heavy food the last night? Some may also feel if we eat three large meals it is fine to skip mid snacks and our weight won’t increase. But is it sustainable? Have you thought about it?
Large meals burden our digestive system, often causing bloating and lethargy whereas the body struggles to digest them.
When we eat a big meal, blood sugar levels rise but once that food is digested, sugar levels start falling as your body starts using them for energy to fight with the lethargy. Bigger the meal, bigger the crash. Leading to your need for more sugar to refuel your body.
Researches have confirmed levels of fatty acids in the blood remain stable when you eat little and often.
Eating Frequently but Small balanced Meals provides all the nutrients needed for a sustainable Health.
The longer you wait between meals, the hungrier you get and you tend to over eat.
- After 3 hours without food, blood sugar begins to fall.
- 4 hours gone and your body has already digested whatever you gave it earlier
- Once 5 hours are crossed, your body gets impatient and you grab anything and everything to refuel it.
This is the reason – Eat your breakfast. A good healthy breakfast and eating small meals every 3-4 hours provides your body with all the required nutrients and your brain doesn’t let you go overboard at mealtime.
For a sustainable healthy body and mind you need to eat 3 main meals and at least 2 small snacks in between the main meals.
Examples of small snacks-
- Fresh fruit alone or with low fat cheese or low fat milkshake
- Carrot or cucumber or whole grain cracker with nut butter
- Low fat curd or buttermilk
Skipping meals is never a good idea whereas Eating good is the best idea. Combine with good Hydration and sufficient rest. If you want to lose weight of course from your fats, calorie deficit is needed along with the above combination.
